A shame for the nation
Did not expect them to work like Swiss or Japanese, but after waiting 7 hours for a simple tourist visa extent on March 22nd, I truly think that they should be ashamed of themselves. The entire country desperately needs tourists, but they just fool you. 4 ways to enter their premises, but only 1 has a CoVid check which is invisible. But without that tiny little sticker (after temperature check) they send you back again.
Then they send you to the information counter, who again sends you to a volunteer counter, only to learn that a form was missing, which one must obtain at the information desk (again??) . . . who tells you that the forms are outside . . . but where ??
Done!! But no! First you need a red stamp on your forms done at a different building. Why nobody tells you that in the 1st place? So back and forth for hours! The most inefficient place I had ever been to.
I understand however, that those officers work for a small salary and that they are not trained to work efficiently, which is why I give them 2 stars. However, the visa stamps for extension etc. are not free. A simple tourist visa extent costs 70 US$ !!
And for that, 7 hours being pushed around in the heat of Chiang Mai is inexcusable. One might think it carries a message: We don’t want you. . . go home if you don’t like it.
Really, amazing Thailand.
Below are the analyze and conclusion of us about above reviews
Review 1: Manfred
This review details a frustrating and time-consuming experience attempting to extend a tourist visa at what appears to be the Chiang Mai Immigration office. Manfred expresses disappointment with the lack of efficiency and clear instructions, highlighting a confusing process involving multiple counters, missing forms, and a required stamp from a separate building. The reviewer notes the apparent lack of training and low salaries of the officers, which he factors into his 2-star rating. The review also mentions the cost of the visa extension (70 USD) and the overall impression of being unwanted as a tourist. While the language is strong and negative, the specific details about the process (COVID check, multiple counters, missing forms, red stamp) lend credibility to the account. It doesn’t appear to be a fabricated review as it focuses on the operational inefficiencies rather than making outlandish claims about the service itself. The user shares details on cost, location and visa procedures, making it believable.
chiangmaiimm.com likely legit.
