ASTA – meaningless ‘code of ethics’
I filed a complaint against CheapOair (OneTravel) with ASTA – The American Society of Travel Advisors.
My complaint was outright ignored. I pointed out how CheapOair violated – trampled on – 9 or their 12 ‘code of ethics’ points. You can read hundreds of reviews of people being scammed by this ASTA member travel agency on the BBB website, trustpilot, etc. CheapOair is the NUMBER 1 violator of Dept. of Transportation rules and regulations according to DOT stats. Does ASTA care? ASTA code of ethics doesn’t mean squat. Their code of ethics makes me, as a consumer, think ASTA is looking out for customers. NO. They are there to defend their members. So travel agency members of ASTA can do as they please. Don’t be fooled into thinking their logo gives a business some kind of legitimacy. It absolutely does not.

Analysis of Dave’s Review:
Dave’s review expresses extreme dissatisfaction with ASTA (American Society of Travel Advisors). He claims to have filed a complaint against CheapOair, an ASTA member, citing numerous violations of ASTA’s code of ethics. His main issue is that ASTA seemingly ignored his complaint, leading him to believe that ASTA prioritizes protecting its members over consumer interests. He provides supporting evidence by referencing CheapOair’s negative reputation on platforms like BBB and Trustpilot, and alleges their high violation rate of DOT regulations. He concludes that ASTA’s code of ethics is meaningless and its logo provides no real legitimacy to its members.
The review comes across as genuine anger and frustration from a consumer who felt wronged and then ignored by an organization they believed should have helped them. The specific references to CheapOair’s alleged wrongdoings and mentions of other review platforms add credibility. The detailed points about the number of ethics violations and the Department of Transportation stats, if accurate, would strengthen his argument considerably, although without verification, they remain claims. The strong language (“trampled on,” “doesn’t mean squat”) is typical of negative reviews where the person is emotionally charged. The overall tone suggests a legitimate complaint, though subjective and based on one person’s experience.
